“The Voice” was written by Shel Silverstein. Not only did he write poetry, he was also a talented musician, songwriter and playwright. To read more about Silverstein and see more examples of his work, you can check him out- here.
I chose this poem for my quote this week in honor of Kris’s birthday. This poem has always reminded me of my middle child. I used to read poems from “Falling Up” and “Where the Sidewalk Ends” to my children when they were younger.
I like the message. Not only for Kris, but for everyone. It’s important to listen to that voice inside of you.
Thank you to Colleen at Silver Threading for hosting Writer’s Quote Wednesday!
I love this quote …and Shel Silverstein. I haven’t read any of his stuff to M yet, but I need to.

A lovely choice. Ignore your inner voice at your peril. 🙂

You are so right. I am going to reblog this in memory of my youngest son. He memorized many of Silverstein’ writings. This one is one of the best.

I agree that this is definitely one of the best. In between the silly poems, he had some that had real meaning!
Thank you for the reblog! 🙂

Beautiful! I always say my voice inside is my moral compass… keeping me out of trouble. ❤ Thanks for the great poem. I really enjoyed it.
