Hi! I’m Kat. I am the married mom of three. My kids are newly grown- ages 21, 23, 26, so translated that means that legally they are adults but in reality they are still my babies. In addition to my husband and children, I share my life with an awesome daughter-in-law, two of the cutest grandsons in the world and the most obnoxious but loving dog ever. My family is my world. And when I’m not with them, I love reading, writing, shopping, music and hanging out with my best friends.

I can’t remember a time I wasn’t writing or plotting some story in my head. Writing is what keeps me sane. I am incredibly shy about sharing my work with anyone and that is one of the reasons I decided to start a blog. Stepping out of my comfort zone and facing my fears is important to me.

One thing I realized very early on in my parenting days is that you really need support. While having your parents and siblings around to help out is totally priceless, sometimes you need someone who has gone through what you are going through, or is at that same stage when you are so you can go through it together.  It really makes a difference to know that you are not alone and that there is a person out there who KNOWS how you feel because they are experiencing it too. A few years ago, my family underwent an amazing transformation and my hope is that by writing about my experience, it will not only help me process everything but maybe help others who are going through the same thing. Help them to know that they are not alone.

My middle child, Kris, came out as transgender in 2011. Within months Kerri became Kris and our lives changed forever. In the beginning it was chaotic and confusing but as the dust tries to settle, we have found our way to a new normal. It has bonded us as a family. I wouldn’t change it for the world.

My goal is to grow as a person and a writer, make some new friends and hopefully not bore you to tears on the way!

  1. I found your blog on The Daily Post Photo Challenge: Place in the World. I was drawn by the Dandelion Fuzz. What a great name! Then I stayed because many of your posts resonated. It’s wonderful to read posts by a supportive and loving parent.

  2. Hi Kat, I read thru your about page. I have two gay sons, and its a tough go for them at times. One is an established artist and is doing wonderfully well and is about to go off to Paris to exhibit in the Paris Art Fair….good luck with your blogging..

    1. Hi Michael, before I knew that I had an LGBTQ child, I always felt that if I did, my issue would be my worry for their happiness and safety. After I found out that I indeed had one, it remains the same. People can be cruel and no one wants their child to be treated badly because of who they are. How exciting for your son- it sounds like a great accomplishment- to exhibit in Paris! You must be very proud! 🙂

      1. Its an exciting time with him now. On Monday I take him to the airport where he flies to Perth In Western Australia for a show there and then in mid October he is off to Paris….I’m hoping he is back by Christmas.
Also your fears are mine…knowing how tough their lives can be was my first thought but my sons are doing ok….

I’d really be interested in learning 7 new facts about you and I think the rest of the blogosphere would too! Check out my most recent post for the rules and the award for you to copy and put on your site.

  8. Hi Kat! I’m doing this virtual blog tour thing and am posting mine today. I am listing your blog as one of my favorites because I have learned so much from you and I think you are a tremendous person. If you wish to continue the blog tour, you would need to post next Monday a similar post to what I did today. BUT…you don’t have to. I honestly don’t care either way!!

    1. Thank you for sharing this with me! This video hits on something I think about a lot- how different the journey is depending on when a transgender child is “diagnosed”. I’m going to save this video for future reference. Thanks again!!!

    2. I have decided to share this video for my Friday Fuzz feature. I would like to thank and credit you in the post for bringing it to my attention. Is this okay?

    1. Thank you for the nomination. I was nominated for and because I am me- can’t believe anyone would want to nominate me, let alone more than one person! 🙂

  11. I have four adult children (ok the youngest is 15, so not officially adult) but like you, they will always be my babies!! Despite my outwardly smart ass appearance, I was also unsure about sharing my writing, but I am loving it now!!! Beware that damn Liebster award, it will take over your life!!! And I adore you for understanding the jeans love!! I have a smelly, daft, beautiful rescued dog, who thinks she is a cat!! Keep going, your blog is wonderful!!
