O is for Odd Little Group #AtoZChallenge”

odd little group I remember walking into our family room one day to find this odd little group laying on the side of the fireplace. Since I’m convinced that these toys have lives outside of being playthings, I’m not surprised when I come upon a scenario such as this one. I didn’t look too closely as I took the picture. And then it made the cut for “O” in the Blogging from A to Z Challenge.

Upon closer inspection, I wondered how this ragtag group came to be. I’m sure it wasn’t a prearranged meeting. I looked up at the ceiling above the fireplace to the spot that had captured Woody’s and Yoda’s attention. Hmmmmm…….

Finding the room quiet and empty of humans, Woody decided to have a rest, gazing at the hideous popcorn ceiling with glitter scattered throughout and he was reminded of the stars in the sky when he would unroll his pack out on the range and sleep under the wide dark sky with his faithful stead, Bullseye, nearby. Yoda, passing by in search of a young Padawan to train, was curious about Woody’s fascination with something skyward, and having no younglings or errant Jedis in sight, dropped (or maybe executed one of his fancy Jedi flips) down beside the cowboy.

Laying companionably side by side, the two unlikely friends found they had much in common. After all, both had found a calling in helping others to find their way and learn more about themselves. Yoda shared his frustration in recognizing the potential in Anakin and the stubbornness Luke displayed while Woody likened this to his adventures with Buzz (Lightyear). Not to be confused with another Buzz.

The other Buzz, of Beat Bugs fame, an adorable little fruit fly, along with her close friend, Walter the slug, stumbled upon the stargazing pair, while out exploring the fireplace. Buzz raised her magnifying glass to her eye, pausing to take a closer look. Walter, sensing that something exciting was going to happened and never one to pass up an opportunity to break into song, whipped out a microphone from his pocket with a dramatic flair.

It was at this time that I entered the room and pulled out my phone to take a photo. Nearby, Bumble, who had remained unnoticed, jumped into the picture upstaging Walter’s moment while executing a well timed photo bomb.

Or maybe the toys just landed there when I was tidying up and it was just a coincidence that they landed that way. I guess I’ll never know!

Have an awesome day!

‘You’re my favorite deputy!”

Little did we know that back in 1995 when we were first introduced to the movie, Toy Story, that Woody, Andy’s favorite toy would become a family favorite who would still be with us over 20 years later. His arm is torn, his buttons are loose and his string doesn’t work, but I think the old guy has held up pretty good considering his age.

“Reach for the sky!”

Woody has found himself in a number of predicaments over the years. And sadly, due to accidents from so much playing, he’s been shelved from time to time…for his own safety, of course. He always kept a watchful eye over the household while he was out of commission. Sort of an off-season Elf on the Shelf, you might say!

“I can’t stop Andy from growing up. But I wouldn’t miss it for the world!”       -Woody, Toy Story

“Now Woody, he’s been my pal for as long as I can remember. He’s brave, like a cowboy should be, and kind and smart. But the thing that makes Woody special is he’ll never give up on you…ever. He’ll be there for you, no matter what.”—Andy as he finally decides to hand Woody over to Bonnie.

Woody is a frequent guest subject in my photographs and the really cool thing about this is that with the exception of the photo of the four Woodies, his photos are not staged. Whether it’s compliments of the big kids (ages 27 and 22) or the little kids (ages 8 and 3), Woody continues to live an active life full of adventures- and I love it!

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Abandoned or Alone

Nothing says ‘abandoned’ like a toy that was left behind. And it’s those toys, some of Toy Story fame, which are featured in my entries for Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Abandoned or Alone.

As is often the case, I had completely different photos set aside for this challenge when I happened to walk into the family room after Beej left with his dad. There were Buzz and Woody, laying there abandoned by the little boy who had just been giggling when he accidentally pushed one of Buzz’s buttons.

This caused me to stop and look around at all the other toys that were looking just as sad, waiting for their person to come back and play with them.

All I had to do was to look down when I glanced out the back window to find a teddy bear and friend, peaking out at me. Why he’s hiding there with a storm trooper (or is that a clone trooper— oh shoot, I know this!!!), I really don’t know…

Putting laundry away, a quick check in Beej’s bed found Knuffle Bunny, the most abandoned toy in our house due to the number of times he has been loved, wrestled with, posed, and yes, abandoned in his short time in our family.

A quick pop into Kris’s room found this lion, laying on a shelf with other discarded items.

And finally, I came across another Woody, this one long abandoned by Andy, who tossed him in his closet when he went to college (yeah, the irony of that is not lost on me!).

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: W or X

Www, what begins with w?

Walk- Wheel- Windy

Www

And then there is the tale of four Woodies….Woodys….Woody’s? In order of appearance in our lives- Michael’s Woody, Andrew’s Woody, CJ’s Woody and Beej’s Woody. Michael’s Woody is an original from when Toy Story was first released. It still bears his name on the bottom of the boot. This guy has been “shelved” in my office, needing repair and not up to being subjected to little boys’ rough housing. Andrew’s Woody is slightly smaller than the others, looks brand new and holds a place of honor out of the little nephews’ reach. Woody #3 is CJ’s. His vest and hat have been missing for awhile and his belt has been repaired many times. It’s nice to know that he’s well played with and much loved. And then little Beej’s Woody is a secondhand edition, equivalent to training wheels. He loves his Woody but he really gives him a beating, too, so he will have to wait for his own new Woody.

Big B, Little B

What begins with B…..and W?

Here are my photos for Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Starts With the Letters B or W.

I might have used this photo before but Baby Beej reading a book to Ari had too many Bs to pass up. And because he really does love his books, I decided to throw in the second one.
