Thankful, Grateful, Blessed- Part 3

Behind on my blessings, I’m playing catch up. These are more things I’m truly grateful for- the pharmacy drive-thru on a blustery day, treating myself to coffee and a donut, playing before the bus comes, a week of birthdays, and a new generation of Pokemon masters.

So much to be thankful for-

Thankful, Grateful, Blessed- Part 2

A quiet stroll through a favorite resale shop, a covered gas station on a rainy day, a good book and ginger ale, a warm pup, and finding a Thanksgiving cactus the first place I looked. I’m thankful for these.

Thankful, Grateful, Blessed Part 1

My original plan was to have a thankful post every day. Since Nanowrimo is also part of November, I decided to change the written posts to daily photos, showing something I’m thankful for. Before October ended and I realized I had no idea what I would be writing about for my Nano novel, I quickly revised my plan to something more manageable. My final plan is to divide the month into 5 equal parts and share six photos in each post depicting part of each day. And so, two days late (yikes, really?) here is my first six days of thankful, grateful, blessed.

I hope to be checking in more often, although when- I’m not sure! I’m already a few days behind for Nanowrimo but hopeful that I’ll make up the lost time by the end of this week.

Take care and stay safe!

Thankful, Grateful, Blessed

Two weeks ago I could tell you what was happening every day from that point on until today. I might have had to pause to remember which family members would be working or in this state or traveling, but I had it all figured out. Other than feeling a little tired in anticipation of the jam-packed two weeks, I was ready.

I’m not sure when things began to unravel, but unravel they did. The days got away from me and I felt like I was always behind, trying to keep up. I held on to some strands longer than others. I was able to keep up with my writing until last Wednesday when I slipped down the side of the mountain and now that I’m nearly at the bottom and the Friday deadline is looming, I’m not quite sure how this will play out. Oddly enough, other than total exhaustion on Thanksgiving day and a volatile three year old who spent the day sharing his many mood swings smack dab in the middle of the kitchen during food prep, the meal was prepared, edible, and somewhat on time. We are wrapping up a busy two weeks and preparing to pick up the pieces of everyday life until the next holiday hits!

I am thankful, grateful, and blessed for-

writing space
A quiet and spacious writing space during my weekend away

chicago river
Not too cold weather during my conference weekend

amtrak train arrival
Whether they were delayed by hours or showed up early, the safe arrivals and departures of our loved ones

turkey
Sharing a meal with as many of my people as we could gather

birthday balloon

Celebrating our youngest family member’s birthday as only a preschooler can!

The pictures might be slightly blurry with wonky colors, but the memories are sharp and in focus.

Thankful Thursday

dandelion on patio 7.2.17When I sat down in front of my computer today, my mind skittered around in an attempt to decide on a post. I wasn’t prepared for any of the photo challenges- at least not quite yet. A quick scroll through pins on my “In the works” board on Pinterest didn’t spark anything. I felt my spirits droop and an unwelcome thought entered my mind. “Why does everything suck?”

This made me sit up in my chair and do a quick examination of my life at that exact minute. As my thoughts darted around my head touching on this issue or that area, I quickly realized that I could only think of one thing that could be categorized as sucking.

As I ran down my laundry list of usual problem areas, it dawned on me that things were pretty darn good and truthfully, I had so much to be thankful for. I gave that “sucky” thought a kick in the pants and settled down to share my thankful list with you:

  • My two college kids are in good places- both of them! They are both finishing up their last year of undergrad studies. Despite a little adversity, both are facing these obstacles in a more mature manner. And they are thinking past graduation! Score!!!
  • My dear friend, Hugh, who writes Hugh’s Views & News so kindly shared a post of mine that he enjoyed- Yesterday Once More. What makes this act so special to me is that I was feeling a bit vulnerable writing it. I’ve been playing it safe for awhile now and when Hugh’s own post inspired me to write mine, I was hesitant to hit that “Publish” button. Every insecurity I have as a writer rose to the surface. Hugh sharing that post was the gentle nudge I desperately needed and I’m eternally thankful to him for this.
  • I met new people through my blog at a time when I’ve been feeling quite cut off from the world both behind the keyboard and out. It’s been so much fun!
  • The infernal heat broke and it’s a breezy 70 degrees here in the Midwest- absolutely perfect!
  • I’m feeling more pulled together than I have in a long time. Being in limbo can be draining and scary and frustrating but today I don’t feel so disconnected.
  • I chose (and purchased) a paint color for my front door that was referred to as a “bold” choice by the cashier and although she said it in a way that implied it was over the top, it only confirmed to me that I had, indeed, picked the perfect color!

What are you thankful for today?
