#AtoZChallenge B is for Bravery

“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we’ll ever do.” -Brene Brown

Today felt like a “share a song” kind of day and as I was looking for an appropriate song, I came across this song from The Sound of Music. One of the comments under this video is “You can’t sing this song without thinking you’re Julie Andrews.” And this made me laugh. Her character, Maria, shows her insecurities but manages to exude a level of self-confidence that I’m sure we all wish we could reach.

If you are unfamiliar with the story, (although I can’t believe everyone doesn’t know The Sound of Music) Maria is studying to become a nun, which is clearly not her calling. She takes on a position caring for a widower’s seven (!) children, no easy task. She approaches the job with a few misgivings but gives herself a great pep talk, reminding herself of who she is.

Loving yourself and knowing that what happens to you is yours to use as you choose is  vital to your success in life, and I mean that in all avenues- family, friends, career. It’s way too easy to take what has happened to you in your life and make it an excuse-allowing it to hold you back. OR you can embrace it and use it as a stepping stone to greater things!

Have a great day!

  1. Ah! One of my favourite movies and a wonderfully empowering song! But now I have to wonder what will C be….?
As an aside – have you seen the new Beauty and the Beast – there is a moment where non-cartoon Belle runs up onto a Hill with mountains in the background and I dare any Sound of Music fan not to make comparisons!
