It’s been awhile since I took part in Ten Things of Thankful but today seems to be a good day to give it a go. Every day is the perfect day to keep in mind all that we have to be thankful for!
In no particular order, here are Ten Things that I am thankful for-
- My late night texters- Last night when I was having problems getting to sleep, two very good friends texted me (an hour later than they normally would have). My conversations with both of them were inconsequential but just the kind of chit chat I needed to wind down.
- Ari, our dog- Ari never fails to keep us entertained. Whether she is battling Team Squirrel in the back yard, or hunting ghost predators in our house, or just staring at me woefully hoping for an invite up on my chair, her unconditional love and loyalty fill my heart with joy.
- No snow- Although the weather has been downright screwy for the past month, at this exact moment in time, there is no snow! (All bets are off for later in the day, though.)
- Space Heater Magic- I am so thankful for the space heater that brings the back porch to a temperature where I can spray paint all of my little projects, feeding my spray painting obsession.
- My car’s remote start- Since my car is outside year round, on those miserable rainy, slushy mornings, I am so so thankful for the remote start that allows me to get into a not frozen car.
- Those little odd jobs- With most of my week spent with a busy toddler, I am relieved (and thankful) that all those tiny tasks that I squeezed in in-between potty time and reading left my house almost not quite a nightmare to look at today!
- Quiet- We have very little planned this weekend. YES!
- Pinterest- I found myself visiting Pinterest more often as I needed an escape from all of the current events that are clogging up my newsfeeds. It all gets to be too much and it was a nice change to just mindlessly search for random things and let it all go. My searches varied from “writing prompts” to “how to paint paneling” to “diy lampshades” to “toddler busy bags” and more.
- YOU GUYS- (Guys are all of you- not just men. It’s a Midwest thing….) Your presence is felt all over my life. Whether it’s texts, posts or emails- you continue to be such a positive and supportive presence in my life.
- Ten Things of Thankful- I am so thankful that I found this! It crossed my feed at the perfect time and I am thankful that it makes me think of all of the great things that I have in my life- those things that I take for granted. Thank you!!!
Have a great Saturday!
-Kat
A space heater and a car that has a remote start sound like very good things to have especially in cold weather. Snow is forecast again here and freezing rain, but there is a chance it will miss us and just hit a little north of us. We can only hope it misses us. I do not like driving in freezing rain! We have a lot of squirrels here too.

I can’t live without that remote start on my car- nothing worse than having to get into a freezing car!
And Ari has continued to have daily battles with the squirrels. The really do enjoy their love/hate relationship!

My goal this year is to practice conscious gratitude – it is harder than I thought because I feel a little silly saying “I am grateful for …. even in my head. But it does make a difference, and so I shall continue. I am thankful for your post, it made me smile gently, and appreciate that lives are very similar at the base, doing the little things that keep us all going. Hope your weekend is good.

Thank you, Claudette! Today was not as peaceful as I had hoped but I was able to give my little Beej some much needed down time here at my house. Being 2 can be as trying for the 2 year old as it is for the Daddy! 🙂
I think being grateful is something that you have to train yourself to do. I remember keeping a Gratitude Journal a long time ago and it really was a great experience. 🙂

Parenting is hard – and often not peaceful – as I am sure you remember 🙂 I have never been a journal keeper, just not a person who can do that – i just end up writing “ok day” and such! I’m just going to be more particular about thinking of thankfulness and gratitude (I often do this when I am mowing the lawn, it’s kind of soothing – the mowing and the thinking).

Isn’t it interesting what things will motivate us to think? 🙂

Hi! So many good things here I could relate to from wide-awake nights, to furkids, to remote starters, not to mention that “you guys” is familiar to this Midwest born and raised girl who now lives in Texas. 🙂 Your toddler time sounds delightful and exhausting and I’m betting you are welcoming the quiet weekend! I love TToT and how it affects my attitude, and I’m happy to have discovered your blog this way. I’ll be following now.

Welcome! I’m so glad you are here and thank you for following. 🙂 I always called my Girl Scouts “You guys” which cracked them up to no end. It’s definitely a Midwest thing. 🙂

Love your list!! Thankful for you very much! Had to smile at Number 1. We weren’t testing last night, but the other night it was later then I usually text. 🙂

Yes, and actually I was thinking of that night, too! Those later conversations are a nice way to end the day. 🙂

Methinks Ari needs a trampoline to get at those squirrels! 😉

She is able to get some impressive height considering her girth but a trampoline would definitely help her out. That squirrel was just staring her down- it was funny.
