Up (Married Life) from the movie Up

Although the Disney Pixar movie, Up, was released in 2009, I saw it for the first time two years ago. It is the story of Carl, a retired balloon seller, and Russell, a young Wilderness Explorer, who embark on a journey to Paradise Falls, a fictitious location where Carl had planned to live out his life with his wife, Ellie. The characters, including a colorful bird who loves chocolate named Kevin and Dug, the dog who talks through a device on his collar, are memorable and lovable each in their own right. The story is funny and touching. The music is the perfect background to set the scenes. Despite countless other DVDs and Netflix, this movie is a favorite in our household.

The montage of that accompanies this song tells the story of Carl and Ellie’s marriage. This movie isn’t just for kids, although it has so much to offer them. There is a message in Carl and Ellie’s time together- to live each day to the fullest and love each other each day to the fullest because you just don’t know what tomorrow will bring. I cry every time we watch it, joining the members of my exclusive ‘guaranteed tearjerker’ club- Toy Story 3 and Inside Out.

And since I’m in such a weepy mood today, I’m going to leave you on that note and swallow the lump in my throat.

    1. Oh wow, Marley & Me- I cried my eyes out watching that one! The other two- Toy Story 3 and Inside Out tug purely on my mom heartstrings. 🙂

    1. We really are a lot alike, aren’t we? 🙂 I’ve been in a weepy mood for a few days now so I couldn’t even watch the entire song for the post. lol

  5. This really is a beautiful piece from a beautiful movie. Our son is a musician, and he’s done extensive research into the background of this piece, how it was composed, exactly what it is about it that evokes such extreme emotion (chord progressions and other music-y details), the use of color in the movie as it relates to the piece, and on and on. It’s one of his all-time favorites, so it’s one of mine, too. 🙂

    1. 🙂 My son is in music school and throughout his musical education/career, we have had many discussions revolving around the impact music has in movies. And this one does evoke strong emotion.

  6. I seriously need to watch this movie again. I watched it with my kids several years ago and didn’t particularly like it. Since then, I’ve heard MANY people list it among their favorites. I’m thinking I must have missed something or am just really out of the loop! 🙂 I just remember it being sad.
