Hugh’s Photo Challenge: Week 7 – Funny Or Strange Signs

Musicians are a breed all their own. If you are not a musician and have had the chance to hang out with them, you know what I mean. I’m not talking about those people that just play an instrument. No, I mean your die hard, melodies flow through their veins, live, breathe music musicians. They are wired just a little bit differently than the rest of the world. Having given birth to a musician or two, I have had a close up front row view into the quirkiness of a real musician.

Two years ago, I spent a lot of time visiting music schools with my youngest son, Andrew. We weren’t talking just any music schools either. These schools were in league with Julliard. (One actually was Julliard.) Needless to say between school tours and then return visits for auditions, I spent a lot of time surrounded by hardcore musicians.

And it was at one of those auditions that I came across the following sign:

While I would like to think it’s a joke, knowing musicians as well as I do, I’m afraid it was legit. The fact that I’m the only one who found it amusing sort of confirms it. I did point it out to Andrew… who shrugged.

Hugh’s Photo Challenge: Week 6- Unused

“My name is Kat and I’m addicted to buying journals and notebooks.”

I couldn’t stop at one. Nope. I had to have 3 pictures of my journals and notebooks, all unused. When I saw this week’s – Hugh’s Photo Challenge: Week 6- Unused these journals and notebooks didn’t come to mind. I spent a few days looking around different rooms and considering this item or that. During that same time, I had opened the drawer where these are kept in search of just the right journal to use for my first foray into bullet journaling—- and none of them were what I was looking for.

I did purchase a Moleskine journal and that lucky baby never made it into the drawer of doom where my obsession lays hidden. I wish I was kidding but I’m not. It’s an addiction- one that I’ve passed onto to Kris. If you lose either of us in Target, just head over to the notebook aisle. We will be there poring over their selection, comparing notes on which ones we like or dislike. There’s just something about the feel of a fresh new journal with all those clean unspoiled pages. So much potential.

These pictures are only a portion of my unused journals. I take some comfort in the knowledge that I’m not the only one who suffers from this affliction. I’ve come across other writers who seem to have the same weakness.

How about you? Are you the secret hoarder or compulsive buyer of something that goes unused? I’m sure I’m not the only one!

Breathe In, Breathe Out

breathe in

In honor of-

  • All the lives lost due to terrorist attacks, violence and suicide
  • And the loved ones that mourn their losses
  • Transgender Day of Remembrance

One quick word about this- there shouldn’t have to be a day or a week or tribute flags on profile pictures. I’m not against any of these things. I understand and support all of them. My point is that it shouldn’t take a horrific act of violence to get anyone’s attention.

Transgender Day of Remembrance is one day, this year on Friday, November 20th, to honor all transgender people who were taken from us too soon. This is a problem of epic proportions and we need more than a day to bring awareness. We need more than a week. Click on the link to find out more. You will see a list of people who were killed. Way too many lives have been lost.

Suicide doesn’t play favorites. Instead it can be found in all walks of life. Anyone from celebrities to ever day dads can  battle demons none of us can imagine. If you need help or want to help out, you can contact the Suicide Prevention Lifeline. The Trevor Project supports LGBTQ youth in crisis.

Please keep the victims and their families in your thoughts and prayers. But also, don’t forget. This isn’t something you think about for one day. Let’s keep this in our hearts and minds for longer than a day or a week. It’s up to the living to make a difference.

“You may say I’m a dreamer. But I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us. And the world will be as one.”  -Imagine, John Lennon

Orange and Green

When I originally thought about my entry for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: The Colors Orange and Green, I was sure I had nothing. It appears I was wrong! This color combination brings autumn to mind so I had to include one picture of the changing leaves but I did end up with a variety of photos that seem to fit the bill.
