H is for Hakuna Matata

“Hakuna Matata?”

“Yeah. It’s our motto!”

“What’s a motto?”

“Nothing. What’s a-motto with you?”

Disney’s The Lion King came out when my son, Michael, was 4 years old. His favorite character was voiced by Whoopi Goldberg. Next to Robin Williams, who was his all-time favorite as the Genie in Aladdin, she rated high on his list. Oh, and just in case you need your mind refreshed- she played one of the hyenas. Yes, out of all those characters- Mufasa, Simba, Pumba and Timon, Zazu…even villain Scar, he chose the hyena. That’s Michael for you. You can imagine the strange looks we got when he said his favorite actors were Whoopi Goldberg and Robin Williams when he was 4!

We took Michael along with his siblings and 2 cousins to see The Lion King Musical when it came to Chicago sometime around 1999-2000. It was an amazing production, which all of my kids still remember vividly 15 years later.

Hearing that The Lion King Musical is returning to Chicago in December is exciting news for our family. We look forward to going as a family and introducing little CJ to the experience of a live musical. It’s not slightly ironic that he’s close to the same age his dad was when he first saw the movie.

Oh, the circle of life!

It’s gets me every time. Am I a sap or what?
