Sometimes I’m amazed and maybe a little freaked out at how much time I spend thinking about something I’m going to write before I actually sit down and write it! I’ve had stories float around in my head for years. My 3 times failed NaNo story is one of those that I’ve decided has to be shelved indefinitely. I’ve spent so many years thinking about it, writing outstanding chapters in my head, you name it! I don’t know if non-writers realize how much goes on inside a writer’s head. lol What do you think?
Thank you to Colleen at Silver Threading for hosting Writer’s Quote Wednesday each week! I hope you will head over to her blog and check out all the quotes others have shared!
I do that a lot too 😀 . I probably spend more time thinking about a story than actually writing it down.

Oh yes, I’m pretty sure I do. And there are times when I’ve written a scene in my head so many times I’m shocked when it doesn’t write itself by the time I sit down to actually write it.

I think you have to just start writing it. The “shitty first draft” is what Anne Lamott calls it. Have you read “Bird by bird” by Anne Lamott. I really like her advice about writing. I agree with the your quote that it starts with what is inside us but then we do have to put it down on the page.

I have read her book. I need to give myself a kick to get myself writing again.

Well don’t kick yourself. I shouldn’t talk because the extent of my writing is my blog. So if you have gotten beyond blogging you are doing better than me. 🙂

My writing began years ago and progressed in stops and starts for the past 25 years. I’m hoping that blogging will get me writing in my other areas, too! We will see, right?

Well that’s my thinking. That the blog is good practice to see if I can write more. Not sure if I will ever write anything longer. I think it does take a discipline to set aside time every day for it, writing longer pieces.

It definitely does take time and more self-discipline than I have right now.
