Kat’s Meow- Awards

I just spent hours writing a post. I have received a number of nominations for a number of blogging awards and after seeing two fellow bloggers post a “group” award acceptance, I decided that it was time for me to do just that. I spent a lot of time checking back and forth through my comments, my about page and so on to make sure I had a complete list and didn’t forget anyone. That task was overwhelming, to say the least. I sat here for hours writing the post, getting links to blogs, searching for the award photos……only to find that it’s all gone. I’m not sure what happened but I lost the post. 😦 I’m so bummed out that I can’t begin to describe it. Instead of creating the post in a document, I went ahead and did it here on Word Press and it is truly gone.

So, here is my much quieter, subdued acceptance of all the wonderful awards that some really awesome bloggers nominated me for. I know that this post will be much shorter- remember those words if you decide to stick with it and see it to the end-

I am truly honored and touched that I was nominated for the awards. I’m a very private person, especially when it comes to my writing, so for anyone to comment, like, follow or nominate me- words cannot describe how good that makes me feel! It’s the only feedback I get on my writing and it really does make me feel like maybe I have a shot at this.:) images (8)Without further ado, I would like to thank Colleen at Silver Threading and Ronovan at Ronovan Writes for not only using a group award post to inspire me to do the same (or in all honesty present me with an idea to steal) but also for nominating me for blogging awards! I am going to follow their lead and make my own rules.

Special thanks to the following bloggers for the nomination:

Colleen at Silver Threading

Ronovan at Ronovan Writes

Jodi at Lunate and the Mermaid

I am honored to be nominated for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award by Dorian and her Mama at Dorian’s Hand.

My special friend, Ronovan at Ronovan Writes, nominated me for these two awards- Beautiful Blogger Award and Black Wolf Blogger Award. I love the mysteriousness of the Black Wolf Award and blush whenever the word beautiful is used to describe anything I’ve done- even writing. Thank you, my friend!

Last, but not in any way least-

sisterhood-of-the-world-blogger-award2I was nominated for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award by Wax over at Wax’s World. Like Wax mentioned upon receiving this award, it reminds me of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants books and I like that!

There are specific rules that are supposed to accompany each of these awards but like Colleen and Ronovan, I’m going to put my own spin on these.

I would like to begin by answering the questions that accompanied Wax’s nomination.

  1. Who do you miss right now?

While trying to get that question to turn purple I decided to change my answer at the last minute. I miss my friend Rob. We are in an uneasy place right now. Our friendship is quite complicated spanning over 30 years now. He has been nagging at the back of my mind for some time now and I know I need to reach out to him.

  2. What’s the story behind your name? (Or do you have any idea why your parents gave you that name?)

Well, since I go by a pen name I guess this answer could go either way, right? 😉 I chose this name because I’ve always loved it. (My youngest son would have been Katherine if he had been a girl.)

  3. What is the one thing you are most proud of?

I’m incredibly proud of my children. They have grown up to be kind, hardworking and amazing!

  4. If you could choose your age forever, what age would you choose and why?

Yikes, looking back I’m not sure I would want to be any specific age forever. There have been so many good and bad times at each and every age.

  5. What is your greatest addiction?

Jelly Belly jelly beans are undoubtedly my addiction. I cannot get enough of them!

  6. What is the most common compliment people give you?

I would have to say I get the most compliments on my parenting skills.

  7. What is your favorite part of the day?

I like the mornings when the house is quiet and everyone’s day has begun.

  8. Who would you like to play your life story in a movie? Why?

I guess I would have to say Sandra Bullock. She has always struck me as a ‘real’ person and I think she could accurately portray me. (But, I really pray there is never a movie about my life!!!That would be downright scary!)

  9. Do you prefer sweet or salty snacks?

Right now, I would have to fall back on those jelly beans and say sweet. 🙂

  10. If you had a magic lamp and the genie granted you 3 wishes, what would the 3 wishes be?

1- I would wish for my parents to be able to live a secure, comfortable life.

2- I would like for my children to lead long, happy, healthy lives.

3- I would wish that everyone could just live in peace- put down their judgments and prejudices and just LIVE life.

Guidelines for my nominees- You are free to do whatever you like with your nomination. I’m going to do a group nomination because assigning people to specific awards is quite frankly a lot of work! If you want to do nothing but consider it Kat’s Crazy Award- please feel free to do so! (I will even make a cute little award picture for you. Yes, I have completely lost it. I admit it. ) If you feel up to the challenge of spreading the love, go for it! Give a brief summary of yourselves and your blog and Invite others to participate. You certainly can ask questions if you wish to know more about your nominees.

I nominate and encourage you to head over and check out the following blogs:

Charissa at Charissa’s Grace Notes– Charissa has come to be a dear friend. Her writing is eloquent, educated, enlightening…. and more.

Maria at peacefulyogamama– Maria inspires me. I think she is much more motivated and ambitious than I was when my 3 children were younger. I love quotes and I can count on Maria to share a relevant quote at any given moment.

Hugh at Hugh’s Views & News– Hugh always has something entertaining to read. I enjoy when his dog takes over his blog and I know that Ari is just itching to hijack mine every time she sees Hugh’s pup on screen.

Julia at I Love You More Than Ice Cream– Julia and I bonded over a love of writing and a great conversation about Beatles music. I love the name of her blog- it’s so original!

Wax at Wax’s World – Wax’s posts are always a bright spot. I have to imagine she’s an engaging teacher because her personality is so so bright and fun.

Roz at Call Him Hunter– Roz and I have a lot in common- a transgender son. Her words are my words. She reminds me of the importance of remembering that I am not alone.

Dorreen at Mother Hen Diaries– I just recently found Dorreen and I have become a fast fan. From the short time I have spent poking around her blog I have smiled- a lot!

Joy at Tellin’ It Like it is– I enjoy Joy’s posts so much. I like how she calls her daughter “the little monkey” and I look forward to participating in 30 days of gratitude with her.

There were so many more I could nominate but for now I think these 8 are a great place to start.

Once again, I would like to thank everyone for the nominations. They made my day! 🙂

  1. Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry you lost your post. 😦 The new WordPress platform is kind of ridiculously annoying – it’s deleted a couple of mine too, so I’ve taken to saving the longer ones in a separate Word doc just in case. Congratulations on all of the awards – you must be a very special blogger indeed! 😀

    1. I usually write the post in Word and then copy it over. The few times I haven’t done that, this is what happens. I’m moving back to the old platform. Either way it’s safer!

And thank you- for someone who really doesn’t like attention, it’s almost overwhelming. Except that I do think that Black Wolf Blogger award is totally cool- even if I don’t know what it means. 🙂

  2. Thank you so much for the nomination, Kat. I am truly honoured for you to have thought of me when you compiled your nomination list and on the same day I published a post which included a section on accepting awards on WordPress as well. Great minds think alike, don’t you think?

I’m still using the old WordPress platform. I like using it and, fingers crossed, it’s never given me any real problems. I just hope WordPress read comments on what bloggers think of the new platform and get to work on fixing all the bugs it has.

Loving the new Twitter feed by the way 🙂

    1. I’ve switched back to using the old version. Better safe than having to rewrite what might have been a complete masterpiece! lol

It’s funny how there are trends in posts (or great minds thinking alike- I like that better, I think!)

I’m still shocked when I see that Twitter feed actually working! And the first thing I noticed was that the post was from bloglovin’— which I had forgotten I had even done! I swear I’m a Social Media hot mess!! 🙂

  3. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for the nomination. I will respond probably during my 30 Days of Thanks! And omg – the new WordPress platform gets a big, fat F from me. I always use the old one. I hope they never get rid of it! I’m sorry you lost your post..that is so frustrating. I actually thought I lost the most recent save of my book the other night because for some reason the document didn’t want to open anymore. The Man saved the day because his computer still was able to…I nearly died of panic though.

    1. I am resistent to change so I have been forcing myaelf to use the new editor but that’s over for me. It’s back to the classic mode for me!

I cant imagine the panic you must have felt thinking your book was gone. I’ve had great success using Liquid Story Binder for my novels the past few years. Other than having to re-learn the program at the beginning of the book, it has worked out well for me.

  4. I used the “new” WordPress editor once and had the same thing happen. I’d written a huge blog post criticizing an article. I went through the article paragraph by paragraph, critiquing each point and finding proof to back my claims. So there were lots of links. I got to the final paragraph and noticed I had a comment so I clicked on the little orange square. Instead of opening in a separate little box, the comment opened up on the whole page. I hit the back button and got asked if I wanted to write a new post, my nearly finished post was gone, plus there was nothing in my posts section. i tried for twenty minutes before I admitted defeat and wrote the whole damned post all over again.

I went onto WordPress the next day and the first thing that popped up was my original post. Not that I needed it by that point.

WordPress will have to drag me kicking and screaming to their new platform because I have no interest in trying it out again after that.

    Off to check the blogs…

    1. Yeah, I’ve had that happen before too- the lost post popping up like that. I think I will scream if that happens when I’m back on my laptop in a few hours writing my next post!
